ATP 3-50.21 Survival
US Army (Army Publishing Directorate)
The current (Sept 2018) official Army survival doctrine — successor to FM 21-76/FM 3-05.70. Covers water, food, fire, shelter, signaling, and survival medicine. The flagship item for a survival-manual library. Also the strongest free source on food procurement — plants, fishing, trapping and snares — and on water sourcing and treatment, which is why it is shelved under Plants, Food & Water as well.
Editor's notes
APD details page: https://armypubs.army.mil/ProductMaps/PubForm/Details.aspx?PUB_ID=1005316 (confirmed pub date 09/18/2018, no distribution restriction). armypubs.army.mil sometimes blocks non-browser user agents; download with a browser UA. Also mirrored at https://irp.fas.org/doddir/army/atp3-50-21.pdf. Universal edibility test is controversial among modern foraging educators (does not protect against mushrooms or several plant toxins) — pair with conservative editorial framing. Strip Army branding enough to avoid implying DoD endorsement of the product.
